At the Northern Alliance’s 120th AGM at the Blue Flame Sports Club it was agreed that the league would kick off the 2010-2011 season with 51 clubs in membership; 17 in each of the three divisions.
Newcastle University and Heddon were relegated from the Premier Division with two teams – Gateshead Rutherford and Percy Main Amateurs – being promoted to the top flight.
Seaton Burn and Northbank Carlisle were relegated from the First Division with North Shields Athletic, Stobswood Welfare and Forest Hall promoted from the Second Division.
Newcomers Red House Farm and Simonside S.C. were admitted to the league and will be probationers for their first season in the Second Division.
Pin Point Recruitment will again be the league’s main sponsors as well as continuing to support the Combination Cup, Amateur Cup and Charity Cup. And Kicks Leisure will once again be sponsoring the League Cup, Challenge Cup and the Fair Play Awards.
The Northern Alliance League Cup has been renamed as the George Dobbins League Cup in memory of the Alliance’s late chairman who died suddenly on the 12th March this year. The AGM was preceded by a minute’s silence as a mark of respect and there is to be a Memorial League Dinner at the Old Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on 28th October.
Previous vice-chairman and acting chairman Peter Riley was elected as George Dobbins’ successor with Bill Darby elected as vice-chairman while all other officials of the league were re-elected for the new season.
